July 7, 2010 - East/West Germany border fence and Germany vs. Spain futbol game public viewing

Germany vs Spain - World Cup Semi-Finals!

So Spain won - boo! We were really rooting for Germany since if they would had won, we would have been in Berlin for the Final game which is on Sunday...can you imagine that party?!? We went to a public viewing in Bad Neustead, which is a pretty small country town, we got all the looks when all the brown skin out of towners walked in, not speaking German and all decked out in German fan gear. So much so that Jazmyne and Vanessa got their picture taken and made the front page of the newspaper the next day. I put a link to it on my facebook page! I'm rooting for the Netherlands to take the title - i'll be there in a couple of weeks adn would be great to catch the spirit!

Before the game: Me and Jazzie Jazz or Jazmanian Devil - I can't decide which nick name to give her, although she insists I call her basement monster! je je

My brother Will, Jaz and Vanessa paint their faces for the game.

Meadow fields near old fence - hard to belive such horror that is the fence within this beautiful landscape...there were all kinds of wild flowers blooming - yellow, red, whites with the dense forest near by.... Very pretty! love these landscapes

Schematic of the border fence system - Several barriers had to be crossed in an attempt to get to the other side

Looking grumps (Pulgarin face) - meadows with watch tower behind...hard to smile thinking of all the history that divided the two Germanies.

Remains of the old border fence and some road blocks

Bavaria: Guard tower at old East/West Germany border
